If you’re a makeup lover like me, you can never have too many liquid lipsticks. There’s pros and cons to almost all liquid lipsticks I’ve tried, the OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks being one of them.
So a few months ago, Nikki Tutorials started a trend by using the Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm as a makeup primer. YouTubers, MUAs and makeup fanatics have tried and gushed over this amazing $6 product, that’s proved to be better than some top makeup primers ranging at $30+. But, is this shave balm for everyone?
Lately, beauty fanatics obsess over liquid lipsticks– Anastasia Beverly Hills, Jeffree Star, Kat Von D, Colourpop and most recently, the Kylie Jenner lip kit. One underlying problem that liquid lipsticks ultimately share is the dry, flakey sensation they often leave. While I’ve been on the liquid lip band wagon and haven’t yet hopped off, I tried something new from Colourpop and I’m lovin’ it! All aboard the lippie stix train!
As some of you may know, NYX Cosmetics opened up their first ever store in Arcadia, California on Friday (October 2nd).
My boyfriend teased me, asking why I was so excited when I could buy NYX products at Target, Ulta, CVS, etc. In the back of my mind, I questioned myself as well, but I’m here to assure you that dropping into the NYX store is totally worth it!
Cute booths like this one were set up around the Westfield Santa Anita Mall where NYX girls handed out flyers for the store and offered free lipstick applications. At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, the store had a small line and an employee guarded the door.
The best thing about the NYX store is that the majority of products have samples that you can swatch in store. There were also tons of employees ready to answer any questions and help you find the perfect product. In addition, they have every NYX product (of course).
This three-tier mini traincase with lock and key was also free with any $75 purchase. The case sells at $35 regularly.
If you missed this grand opening, don’t worry. The NYX Del Amo Fashion Center location’s grand opening is Friday (October 9th) in Torrance, California. Find all of the details here– it’s a Facebook event list with complete details: opening, meet & greets, and prize options. Hint, Desi Perkins and ChrisspyMakeup will be there on Saturday! Eek!!!
Here’s my mini NYX Haul if you’re interested in seeing what I got. Everything totaled to $100, which isn’t bad considering I purchased 11 items!
NYX Avant Pop Palette- Noveau Chic $17
NYX Rocker Chic Palette- Tainted Love $18
I bought this palette for two reasons. I love the studded case and the light blue-white eyeshadow in the bottom left corner is SO pretty. It’s like a matte milky blue color.
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick $7
Of course I had to increase my liquid lipstick collection because I love the brush applicator, pigmented colors and formula. The bluish gray, Stone Fox, is a very popular Liquid Suede Lipstick, but I opted out because I know I won’t wear it.
Instead I chose Soft-Spoken (above) and Vintage (below). Soft-spoken is actually lighter than it looks in the picture. I can best describe it as a warm brown with a very slight orange tint. Vintage is darker, but not as dark as the NYX Soft Lip Cream Copenhagen. It’s a warm purple/maroon berry color. These are both great lipstick stables that can easily work for day or night looks.
NYX Crystal Liner $4.50
(Right) Crystal Gold and (Left) Crystal Silk. I loved both of these gold sparkly liners, the right is more of a bright yellow gold while the left is more metallic with a slight silver hint.
I love the packaging on this shadow, how cute is that silver bow? “Frostbite” is the perfect name for this shadow- it’s a translucent whitish silver base with tiny light blue sparkles. I bought this to put in the corner of my eyes with the baby blue toned shadow (Rocker Chic palette) on my lids.
NYX Baked Blush in Journey $7
This is a nice color to use as a highlighter, it’s very sheer and sparkly. So far, my biggest peeve with this product is that it doesn’t transfer onto my makeup brush well. I will try another brush to see if that’s the problem.
NYX Round Lipstick in Power (629) $4
This is one color I can honestly say I don’t have at home, so it was a good investment. It’s a beautiful lavender purple tone that doesn’t have too much shine.
NYX Pore Filler $14
I was unsure whether I should buy this, until a sales associate had me try it. It’s smooth and soft texture is sure to fill unwanted lines/pores. Definitely recommend.
NYX Finishing Powder in Translucent $10
When I tried this product in the store, it seems to reduce shine and not give off any color. At home, I felt like it made me look ghostly. So be sure to apply it with a light hand or steer clear.
It’s fall and to us Cali girls that may not mean a change in weather or wardrobe, but a change in hair. As I got my luscious locks touched up last week, I asked my hair stylist, Sara (@Sara_Does_Hair), what trends she’s seen recently and here’s what she said…
Instead of going darker, go warmer. These four tones are ultra popular right now.
2.) Violet Hues- aubergine, eggplant, burgundy
And quite possibly the biggest trend?
4.) Rose Gold
While some of the colors may be difficult to maintain, especially the rose gold, it’s possible. Buy a colored shampoo or have your stylist add a bit of rose gold dye to your shampoo to protect color between appointments. If it’s any encouragement, rose gold hair is one of the easier pastel tones to sustain, Sara said.
So, now we know what colors are “in” and how to make em’ last, but how do we keep that fresh-from-the-salon look? If you’re going for a…
Sleek and Sultry Style
“For a sleeker look I couldn’t live without Enjoy Hair and Skin Oil.”
Often when Sara does my hair, this is the only product she uses. It combats my “crazy lady” frizz without feeling greasy.
Which of these trends is your fav? I’d love to know!
Until next week, XO- Ashley
Hello! I’ve taken a mini vacation this week and traveled up north to see J. Cole in concert! Giving my over-packing self a back seat, I tried to pack light this trip. Yes, I forgot my jean jacket in the midst of this, but that’s another story. As I grabbed my typical day-to-day makeup bag: mascara, Glamophlauge concealer, brow kit, face makeup, brushes and 4 lipsticks: nude, magenta, deep bold mahogany and classic red, I knew I didn’t have much room for eyeshadows. I grabbed my favorite two palettes and want to share them with you. These may be familiar to you… I can’t help but write about products right when I get them! Trust me, though. These are the best I’ve seen!
The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette is my all-time favorite. To start, it has a wide range of colors, more than half of them being stable neutrals suitable for day or night looks. Second, the palette actually smells like chocolate, (yum!). When smoothing these shadows on my lids I can’t help but inhale deeply. While in San Fran, I’ve used this palette for hikes, day lunches and dinners. White chocolate is my favorite as it’s the ultimate base color. Salted caramel is my second favorite because it’s a warm, orangey color which works well for day or night looks. It warms up the eyes, looking great with a bronzey gold shadow or a deeper color for a night on the time.
At $39 the Smashbox Mini Palette is a complete steal. Complete with deeper shades, a few neutral tones and blush/ bronzer the palette can’t get much better than this! Although I usually reach for the enchanting scent of the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, I can’t resist this honey bronzer that sculpts my cheekbones and the shimmery high lights that bring out the apples of my cheeks.
So, if you’re looking for a new palette, I highly suggest you turn to these versatile babies. You won’t regret it!
XO, Bye for now- Ashley (@ashleysita).
Ever get tired of your day-to-day makeup look? Well, here is a fun and simple way to spice up your look in no time at all by using white eyeliner!
1.) Bright Eyes
By adding white liner to the inner corners of your eyes and blending it out, it brightens the eye and draws attention to them, such as on model Cara Delevingne. You can also add white liner to your bottom lash line to create a more wide-eyed look as well. The secret to looking and feeling awake? Coffee and bottom white eyeliner! ;)
2.) When in Doubt, Wing it Out
Try replacing your typical top eyeliner with white eyeliner! This definitely draws attention to the eyes and looks great with minimal makeup.
3.) All About That Base
Use white eyeliner as a base for eyeshadow! This looks great for creating a very matte look and helps insure your shadow stays on!
4.) Focus on the Arch
White eyeliner is a great tool for perfecting your eyebrows. By applying a bit of white liner underneath your eyebrow, you draw attention to the arch and get that freshly waxed look!
5.) Have Fun with It
A makeup artist that I follow on Instagram, SillyWittleSarah actually inspired this white eyeliner post! After seeing the fun, pinup style look that she created with a classic wing, white polka dots and white bottom liner I was inspired! This look seems simple enough for anyone to accomplish and it looks great! I also tried a dual white and black wing for another fun look!
Here are some of my all-time favorite white liners to help you get started! Click on the pictures for links!
