Nordstrom Trend Show Beauty Recap

Screen Shot 2015-11-16 at 6.33.50 PM

On Saturday I went to the Nordstrom Trend Show. The doors opened at 8 a.m., but the line began at 7. It was funny to see all of the ladies lined up in their most fashionable knits and boots, donning red (gasp) Starbucks cups in hands. I’ll admit it– my friend and I had Starbucks too.

We were handed goodie bags with samples of fragrances. I love the Flowerbomb perfume by Viktor&Rolf, score!

The top floor of the department store was unrecognizable. Racks were pushed aside to make room for a bright stage and a projector streamed videos and logos. DJ Shammy Dee hyped up the crowd and passed out raffle flyers and So-Cal’s Regional Beauty Director Cindy Tjon acted as MC for the event.

Screen Shot 2015-11-16 at 7.05.40 PM

I came to see Gwen Stefani’s MUA Gregory Arlt, but the blurbs that the brand’s representatives gave were a short five minutes in which the rep. gave info on a few of the brand’s new products.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 4.31.24 PM

Mr. Arlt informed the crowd of MAC’s Nordstrom-exclusive palette, “Nordstrom’s Finest.” A $160-value it’s priced at $85. He stated that this season is, “All about being your own makeup artist,” and apparently, this eyeshadow palette will get you there. It’s definitely a start!

Smashbox announced another Nordstrom-exclusive: “Photo Op for Eyes” Set for $49: eyeliner, mascara, under-eye primer, lash primer, makeup remover and eyeshadow 24-hour primer. I’ve used the Full Exposure Mascara and must give it an A-, I was satisfied, but I don’t know if I’d pay $20 for it.

What I was really excited about is the Nordstrom-exclusive 10-piece Brush Set, $200 value priced at $89. Those brushes are so beautiful! I’m impressed that the two-in-one brush counts as only one of the 10, as well. The fan brush alone is priced at $18, so I’d say this is actually a deal.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 4.51.27 PM

Lancome promoted their “Auda[CITY] in Paris” Palette ($68, valued at $346… who would pay that?) Their presentation stole the show. The representative sang in French and English about the palette in a cool jazz tone, asking the crowd to snap their fingers.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 4.57.43 PM

Drybar’s owner, Alli Webb, was there to discuss the 3-Day-Bender 1-inch Curling Iron and the concept behind Drybar. Did you know all of their blowouts are named after cocktails? Mai Tais, Dirty Martinis, Manhattans… get it, ladies. She also promoted their “Triple Sec” 3-in-1 Texturizing Spray ($13-$26).

It was inspirational to see that in five years, Webb opened up more than 40 Drybars and now has a line of department-store products.

After about two hours the show ended, the stage cleared and the chaos began. The only thing girls love more than makeup is free makeup.

Stands were set up on the second floor for free oxygen-facials, nail polish application, hair styling, and Whish Body Butter and scrubs.

My friend and I waited in line for her to get a facial from Kate Somerville. The sales rep informed us of the importance of fragrance-free products, especially for those with sensitive skin. Out of all the products she used: the EradiKate Achne Treatment ($24), DermalQuench Liquid Lift Spray ($98), Dilo Oil ($65) and the IllumiKate CC Cream – I was most interested in the CC Cream.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 5.40.04 PM

Available in four shades to provide a veil of coverage that adjusts to each skin tone, the cream is illuminating and has SPF 50. The rep told us that illuminating creams are the way to go when trying to disguise breakouts because they’re more forgiving versus a matte finish.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 5.52.40 PM

Downstairs looked like the animal scenes from Mean Girls. Crowds filled the aisles of makeup counters and I was pushed against the glass. Loud chattering filled the air and I found myself shouting to my friend.

Products were all around, samples were being distributed, makeup appointments were filled and free clear, gooey moisturizing masks were applied on women– making the scene look like something out of a scary movie.

Okay, it wasn’t that dramatic, but it did get pretty overwhelming! It was a fun event and I recommend it for all beauty & fashion fans!

5 Ways to Use White Eyeliner

Ever get tired of your day-to-day makeup look? Well, here is a fun and simple way to spice up your look in no time at all by using white eyeliner!

1.) Bright Eyes

the-white-eye-liner--1361129160  False_Lashes_White_Eyeliner_1

By adding white liner to the inner corners of your eyes and blending it out, it brightens the eye and draws attention to them, such as on model Cara Delevingne. You can also add white liner to your bottom lash line to create a more wide-eyed look as well. The secret to looking and feeling awake? Coffee and bottom white eyeliner! ;)

2.) When in Doubt, Wing it Out

32f3586d010309f5039bebc042b4edd2  topknot

Try replacing your typical top eyeliner with white eyeliner! This definitely draws attention to the eyes and looks great with minimal makeup.

3.) All About That Base

Use white eyeliner as a base for eyeshadow! This looks great for creating a very matte look and helps insure your shadow stays on!

4.) Focus on the Arch

Screen Shot 2015-05-26 at 12.10.28 PM

White eyeliner is a great tool for perfecting your eyebrows. By applying a bit of white liner underneath your eyebrow, you draw attention to the arch and get that freshly waxed look!

5.) Have Fun with It

FullSizeRender (2)   2623548_orig

A makeup artist that I follow on Instagram, SillyWittleSarah actually inspired this white eyeliner post! After seeing the fun, pinup style look that she created with a classic wing, white polka dots and white bottom liner I was inspired! This look seems simple enough for anyone to accomplish and it looks great! I also tried a dual white and black wing for another fun look!

Here are some of my all-time favorite white liners to help you get started! Click on the pictures for links!

Birchbox Bliss!

I’m sure we’ve all wanted to try a sample of a product before we go out and actually buy the real thing. Despite rave reviews and recommendations, it’s hard to know if a product is right for you without trying it first!

Luckily, there’s Birchbox! The company was started in 2010 when two women who loved makeup in their own ways, decided to find a way to make testing beauty products easier! And I’m very thankful for them ;) The way Birchbox works is subscribers either pay $10 a month for a box of 4-5 beauty products or $110 for a year’s worth of boxes each month. Products are based off of a beauty interest survey that subscribers fill out to fit the needs of everyone.

Screen Shot 2015-05-19 at 1.19.01 AM

I received my first box over the weekend and I was so excited! There were five samples that I’m looking forward to share with you. They each came with a small description on what the product was and how to use it, as well as the price for a regular sized product!

Find out what was in my box below.

1.) COOLA Tinted Moisturizer

This mineral-based moisturizer is said to soften and even skin tone with a matte finish. Now, I’m always on the hunt for a good moisturizer and I knew this one would be a perfect product for my graduation day because of the matte finish and SPF 30!  The cream was smooth and easy to put on, and the smooth, matte finish lasted throughout my 4-hour graduation festivities. Would definitely recommend this product for those willing to spend $36 on a moisturizer!

2.) Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel

Now I’ve tried this beauty product before because I stole it from my mother’s makeup collection >:), but now I have a cute travel-size one to take along with me. This clear gel really works to tame and define brows and can be worn alone or over your favorite brow pencil or powder. I personally haven’t mastered the art of perfect brows, no #EyebrowsOnFleek for me, YET! I want to try to tinted Anastasia Beverly Hills tinted brow gel, they have 5 colors, including blonde and auburn! Full size costs $22!

Screen Shot 2015-05-19 at 12.56.43 AM

3.) Staniac from theBalm cosmetics

Staniac is a two-in-one tinted lip balm and cheek stain said to give a sheer, rosy tint. I tried it on as a balm and was, unfortunately, not too satisfied with the outcome. The balm felt very gel-like and although it felt cool on the lips at first, it was hard to evenly spread the color and my lips stung after a minute. The color didn’t last me very long, mostly because I licked my lips a bunch after applying it. I am looking forward to trying this product as a cheek stain, but I’ve been warned to smear it with a quick hand because it dries quickly. Full-size cost is $17.

4.) Whish Shave Cream

I am both pleased and heartbroken with this product at the same time. At $20 for a full-size, this organic, smoothing shaving cream can definitely get a bit pricey but there are SO many pros that I’m tempted to become a devout user. My sample was coconut scented and I got lost in its sweet, island scent. This product is all-organic which helps to soothe and moisturize dry skin, leaving you feeling fresh. It is half the texture of a typical shaving cream mixed with half the texture of lotion, it makes shaving a dream and it smells divine!

Screen Shot 2015-05-19 at 1.09.03 AM

5.) Beauty Protector, Protect and Oil

Ah, yet another amazing and wallet-breaking product. Okay, I’m being a bit dramatic, at $25.95 per 4 oz on Birchbox, it is a fair deal, but I’m a drugstore kind of girl! I have a problem with frizzy, fly away hairs and I’ve tried using various oils to tame my mane. All of the oils I’ve tried have left my hair feeling greasy and weighed down. Beauty Protector is different, however. I applied a small amount to my wet hair, let it air dry 80% and blew dry the rest. My hair felt incredibly smooth and, here’s the kicker, IT SMELLED INCREDIBLE. This oil smells just like Pink Sugar perfume, a sugary vanilla scent. I give this product an A+ and I’m dying to buy the full-size product, if I can teach myself how to use it on occasions only!

Have you ever tried Birchbox before? What did you think about it?

Sincerely your Birchbox noob,

Ashleysita (@Ashleysita)

Full Lips without the #KylieJennerChallenge

Kevin from Spongebob

For the past few weeks, the #KylieJennerChallenge, better known as the #KylieJennerChallengeGoneWrong, has been trending on various social media outlets. Kylie’s become known for her pouty lips and participants in this challenge suction cup their lips with various objects to draw blood to the surface and create that full lip look. There are obvious dangers to this fleeting trend, pictures of bruised, damaged and cut lips have surfaced online. Although many see the challenge as a joke and parody it, there are some young girls who are doing this “challenge” because they want to emulate the reality star’s lips.

candylipzfull lips

While there are some safer lip plumping devices that have soft rubber cushions around the them to gently create a vacuum around the lips, this post is about making lips look fuller with gloss and lipstick… your lips will thank you!

#1 Cupid’s Bow

Pay special attention to the cupid’s bow at the top of the lips. I always mess this part up! But, emphasizing the little “v” on the top of the lips and the bottom sides of the lips can make lips look extra full. There are many nude lip liners that are a good tool to keep lipstick from bleeding/spreading! It’s a handy tool for nude lip colors as well. One of my favorites is Hard Candy’s Glamophlauge concealer pencil. In addition to nude lip liners, adding a touch of white eyeliner to the same areas for lips that look plump.

#2 Fill In the Blanks!

Another technique is applying lip liner to the edges of lips and then blending it towards the center.

#3 Highlight

While still putting emphasis on the cupid’s bow, add lip gloss specifically to the center of the lips. Both this and the above method draw attention to the center of the lips to highlight and plump your lip pout, naturally!

After a day of dousing lips with products, I moisturize with coconut oil, amongst its many uses this heavenly oil soothes irritated skin and helps rejuvenate lips. It’s a great makeup remover as well.

I hope you found these little tips helpful!

Smashbox Minibox Palette!

As if Ulta wasn’t tempting enough already, I bought this Smashbox Minibox Palette during Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty for $39. Unfortunately, the 21 Days of Beauty is now over, but this product is available on Ebay as the full minibox palette ($35.58) or just the palette ($19.99). Not, bad! Let’s review.

Let’s rename this product, triple threat… shall we? Complete with 8 eyeshadows- 5 more neutral shades and 3 bold, a sheer lip gloss, mascara, blusher, bronzer and highlighter, just pop this baby in your makeup bag along with your favorite eyeliner and face makeup, and you’re good to go!

Be Legendary Lip Gloss in Pink Lady

This gloss glides on smooth and goes great over lip stick. I included this gloss in my look-at-me lips post a while back. The only downside of this gloss, as is the case with many glosses, is that it has a slightly sticky feel. The upside is that it is long lasting. Although this color is lighter, I’ve had good experiences with these being very pigmented!

Full Exposure Mascara

One huge plus to the Minibox is that it comes with a full-tube of this mascara! I love this long flat brush that makes for easy application. This mascara does not clump easily and doesn’t flake, either.

Let’s take a peak inside!

I apologize that my palette isn’t sparkling clean anymore, but at least you know I use it! One downside to the palette is that the dust from eyeshadows and blushes can sprinkle around once you close it. This palette came with a small plastic sheet to prevent it, but I lost mine within two seconds of buying it… no big deal, though!

The Shadows

Shades: Ambient, Cinder, Peacock, Rose, Sienna, Ultramarine, Nude and Vanilla.

These shadows are “Photo Op Eye Shadows” that were “Created, tested and photographed at Smashbox Studios LA.”

1.) The shadow I use the most is the lightly tinted white shadow at the top. Sorry that it is not that visible in my swatch, but it is a great base and highlighter for the brow bone and inside corners of the eyes!

2.) This toasty beige/brown is great for soft creases and I’ve also used it all over the lid for a slightly smokier look.

3.) I’m a sucker for golds and this one doesn’t disappoint. It is a brighter gold with some sparkle.

4.) This is a nice deep brown color, but what I love about it is that it has a metallic twist to it! It pairs really nicely with either three of the above colors, especially the gold!

This tones are slightly less neutral, but equally pretty!

5.) This metallic slightly purple-taupe is a beautiful shade! I love it for all over the lid, but it also looks really nice on the creases. This shade reminds me of a lighter Wet N Wild eyeshadow, “Nutty.” If you haven’t tried that shadow, pick it up at any local drugstore…it’s awesome! But, I digress.

6.) The pinky mauve color is not as vibrant as it looks in the palette, which to me is a good thing because I’m not super into pinky shadows. It has a nice light tint to it and that same metallic feel.

7.) I’m going to assume that this color is Ultramarine because the name suits it perfectly. I was attracted to this palette particularly for this shadow because it’s unlike any I have. It has a nice, light turquoise tone with a hint of metallic gold to it! I love pairing it with an aqua bottom liner, like the NYX retractable eyeliner in Aquatic Green.

8.) This deep blue is nice and dark, mostly matte with a bit of sparkle. I personally use this color the least, but I’ll try to experiment with it!

Highlighter, blusher and bronzer.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t really used the blusher very much, it is a very bright, corally pink color and I know it will come in handy, though! The highlighter is beautiful, sparkly and bright! The bronzer is one of my favorites, it goes on smooth and is easy to blend! Which has been a flaw with most of my previous bronzers. This one isn’t streaky!

This minibox deserves an “A” in my book and I recommend you pick it up if you have the chance online!

Going Gray

We’ve heard of people dying their hair to get rid of the gray, but what about dying their hair to become gray? Young women are taking the term “silver fox” to another level as they transform their (typically platinum blonde) locks gray. Throughout my college campus, I’ve noticed more and more girls with gray hair and I have to admit the models I found on Pinterest and Instagram rock this look as well! But, this trend isn’t just followed by girls, guys are in on it too. Kylie Jenner may have been right when she said, “A little gray never hurt nobody,” although those working to cover up grays may disagree.image This messy bun and light metallic eye shadow set compliment the gray hair beautifully. Not to mention the bright lipstick and eyebrows that are a darker shade of gray. She makes me love this look! imageHere’s a variation with a smoky lavender hint. Ombres and highlights always look beautiful with curls because it allows us to see all aspects of color.

This ombre gray hair looks really great on fashionista @angexla  and the dark tone of the lips is complimented by highlighted eyes.

Fashionista @Marycake is on top of her hair game, she rocks many different hair colors as proven with this dark-to-deep-gray ombre. (That rhymed!)

After searching through these four variations of gray, what do you think about this trend? Let me know in the comments below! (Rhymed again!)

Spring Nails

Nothing beats a fresh manicure! One great thing about season changes, new nail polish colors (as if there weren’t enough already). This spring season going into the summer you can expect a lot of color- pastels, brights, metallics. Let’s get into it!

Essie Spring 2015

image image image image

image image

Essie’s polish lines are always great because they cater to a wide-range of polish lovers. From those that like nails that demand attention, to those that prefer the minimal, clean-cut color- Essie’s got you! This line does not disappoint. From the brightest teals to the safe and versatile nudes and to vivacious magenta, this is a line you won’t want to miss.

Still searching for the perfect light and baby pink? Search no more. Tuck it in My Tux and Minimalistic are from various Essie lines, but these classics are must-have neutrals that look great on sun-kissed skin.

image image

Ah, and we can’t forget about these classic beauties as we approach summer days of cut-off shorts, loose tanks and beachy waves. I love wearing In the Cab-ana on my toes, it’s such a fun color. Sunday Funday is a bright, coral color that I may just use on my next manicure!

OPI’s Spring 2015 Hawaii

imageimage  image image image image image image image image imageimage

If this new line doesn’t have you yearning for summer vacation than I don’t know what will. OPI why must you torture us?! These polishes have the cutest tropical names all reminiscent of the Hawaiian Islands.

The most daring color would have to be Pineapples Have Peelings Too (very punny). It’s a yellow polish with chunky, sporadic sparkles and I’m not too sure how I feel about it! If I had to make a contribution for a title and color I’d say they could have included a near frosty white or bronzey brown called Coco-Nuts or something! Just my two cents ;)

Nails Designs

I’m a big fan of adding a little something special to nails, so I thought I’d share a few designs with you. Here are some ways to combine neutral and bright colors for a fun spring (or anytime) look!

Screen Shot 2015-04-06 at 8.21.29 PM

Essie Penny Talk

I love this metallic, rose gold! It is phenomenal for designs and it is SO shiny. It looks nice on his own too, of course.

image image image image image image

These are some simple designs that are attainable for DIY and reasonable enough that it shouldn’t break the bank if you go to the salon to get them done. I really love the triangular design and think it’s fun to use the contrasting dark and light color tones, but think it would look great as a single color too.

I came across these cute nails on Instagram the other day and thought they were the perfect Easter spring nails. I love the matte colors and sparkles as well.,

This is the perfect example of neutral and bright color. I love these minimalistic designs and the pop of color.

Happy Spring, ladies. I can see summer approaching now!
